THE CHURCHES OF THE REMINGTON SCHOOL DISTRICT

WHITEWATER, KS: The Frederic Remington Area Historical Society invites the public to The Churches of the Remington School District. The presentation will be Monday, 7:00 PM, October 5, 2026, at Centre Point Church, 212 S. Main, Whitewater. There is no charge for this presentation.

Churches had an important role in the lives of the pioneers. A church was often established in an area before a school. The school was the center of a community, but the church association was the impetus of relationships. Both were necessary for the welfare and encouragement of the early settlers.

This presentation is primarily of an historical nature. The focus area is that of the Remington School district, including the towns of Annelly, Brainerd, Elbing, Furley, Plum Grove, Potwin, Whitewater, and all the surrounding rural area.

Researched and presented by Darryl Claassen, this demonstrates Darryl’s continued interest in the history of his home community

The public is invited to attend free of charge. If so desired, you can become an annual member of FRAHS for $5 dollars per year.

About The Frederic Remington Area Historical Society

The Frederic Remington Area Historical Society (FRAHS) is a membership organization and not-for-profit corporation, filed June 21, 1978. This corporation is exempt from federal income tax under 501(c)(3) Revenue Codes of 1954. Membership runs from September to May; dues are announced at meetings.

The primary purpose of FRAHS is to collect, preserve, and share the Frederic Remington USD206 School District area’s rich history and culture with its residents, students, and other interested persons. A majority of the society’s programs each year are to fulfill that purpose, while other programs should inform attendees of state and national topics of historical and cultural interests.
