NOTIFICATIONS

Lead & Copper Survey, Whitewater Results - No Known Lead, Mostly Copper, some Unknown

Because some of our water system service lines remain UNKNOWN we are required annually by KDHE to remind you of the potential dangers in service lines containing lead. (If you can provide an update to your previously listed 'unknown' status we would love to update our records, thank you)

Health effects of lead: Exposure to lead in drinking water can cause serious health effects in all age groups. Infants and children can have decreases in IQ and attention span. Lead exposure can lead to new learning and behavior problems or worsen existing learning and behavior problems. The children of women who are exposed to lead before or during pregnancy can have increased risk of these negative health effects. Adults can have increased risks of heart disease, high blood pressure, and kidney, or nervous system problems.

2025 Notification of Known or Potential Service Line Containing Lead (Trifold Brochure)

PUBLIC NOTICE: CURRENT VIOLATIONS

The City of Whitewater is currently in violation with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) for failing to distribute the annual "Notification of Known or Potential Service Line Containing Lead" by the specified deadline. Residents who reported "Unknown" in the Lead and Copper Survey should have received the trifold brochure (linked above) detailing potential lead service line information.

Objective

The City aims to complete the Lead and Copper Survey. Any lead, galvanized, or unknown service lines need to be identified and/or should be replaced to ensure compliance and public safety.

Steps to Resolve the Violation

The City will contact residents who responded "Unknown" in the survey to gather additional information and complete the survey. This will eliminate the need for future annual distributions of the "Notification of Known or Potential Service Line Containing Lead."

We sincerely apologize for the delay in distributing the 2025 Notice.
